Susan G. Komen Awards $315,000 to Local nonprofits

Today, the Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® awarded $315,000 in grants to local nonprofits to assist with education, screenings, support services and treatment for breast cancer.   In total, the agency has funded over $4.9 million in local Middle Tennessee breast cancer programs.  An additional $4 million was recently awarded for research grants at Vanderbilt.

Komen Greater Nashville serves 11 counties in Middle Tennessee.  Each year an independent review committee evaluates a slate of applications and recommends funding on an annual basis.  Metro General Hospital’s Mammograms in May program will kick off soon and provides free mammograms and follow-up care for uninsured women over the age of 40.  This program serves all 11 counties in Middle Tennessee.
